Events in Morella

Morella is a tourist destination with many typical events of the area. Amongst others the most famous are:

Fiesta Sexenio MorellaSexenio
Sexenio is one of the most famous events of Morella. The event dates back to the year 1678 and is held every 6 years during the second fortnight of August. During the event the streets of the city turn into a live museum showing part of the history of the town, with decorations made by the people of Morella. The sexenio event is showing dance and theatre performances.

In the history of the Sexenio event we find one central figure, the Virgin Vallivana, who liberated the town from the pest in the year 1672. In honor of the Virin Vallivana every 6 years the event is held.

Corpus de Morella
The procession of Corpus Christi de Morella is considered one of the oldest events in the Mediterranian area and dates back to the year 1357. The procession demonstrates different biblical scenes. On the Saturdays of the procession a slaughter of the innocents is being held where children are dressed up in white and red and biblical characters are a reminder of the event.


San Julian
San JulianThe 7th of January is considered a bank holiday in the Morella area. The people of Morella celebrate Saint Julian Day. The date is just a few days after the Christian conquest and during the day there are many festivities held, in the morning the celebrations have a religious character. Later that day a ceremony is held in the Town Hall where medals and recognitions are given to people and associations.
